A traditional Dutch tool with a long history of precision work in the garden. Originally designed for thinning beets and chicory, the classic hand hoe—known as the Schrepel—remains an exceptionally effective tool for weeding and light soil cultivation.

Its narrow blade is set at a carefully considered angle, allowing you to work close to the ground without straining the wrist. The long, slender neck—reflected in the name Schrepel, meaning “thin” or “skinny”—connects the blade to the handle and enhances both reach and control.

The slightly asymmetric shape improves accuracy, making it ideal for working between rows and around delicate plantings. Similar in function to a half-moon pull hoe, it excels at slicing through weeds just below the soil surface with minimal disturbance.

Developed in the 19th century for the labor-intensive work of thinning sugar beets, this tool continues to offer the same efficiency and precision today. Available in both left- and right-handed versions for optimal comfort and control.
