Santa Maria Novella's Carta d'Armenia blends resins and scents into delicate aromatic papers that purify and perfume spaces. Burning without a flame, they release a warm, resinous vapor once widely used to cleanse and scent homes. Marketed since 1885, this is one of the last surviving examples of the "medicinal papers" popular in Europe from the 17th to early 20th centuries. Inspired by an ancient Armenian tradition of burning benzoin resin, these strips evoke a balmy, vanilla-like fragrance that perfumes linens, closets, and living spaces with timeless elegance.
To use as incense: fold a strip into four, light the short end briefly, then blow out the flame and let it smolder on a non-flammable surface. Alternatively, place the strips in drawers, wardrobes, or luggage to delicately scent fabrics—avoiding direct contact with fabric.

Handcrafted in Florence by Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella—considered the oldest pharmacy in the world—each product reflects over 800 years of artisanal expertise. Founded in 1221, when Dominican friars were granted the use of Santa Maria Inter Vineas, a small church just outside Florence, the Officina began by cultivating a botanical garden to craft medicines, ointments, and balms. Today, their preparations are still made using the finest natural ingredients and time-honored methods, never tested on animals, and honor a legacy of ethical craftsmanship and botanical care.
