When visitors step inside the factory of Viarco, Portugal’s last remaining pencil manufacturer, they often remark on the warm scent of cedar wood—an aroma that many describe as an intimate memory of childhood. This nostalgic connection between scent and pencil inspired the creation of Backyards and Gardens of Portugal, a unique collection celebrating the fragrances of traditional Portuguese gardens.

Developed in partnership with i-SENSIS – Perfume Design, the collection captures the essence of familiar backyard blooms and orchard trees through delicate scents. Each pencil carries a subtle fragrance, evoking the atmosphere of sunlit patios, garden paths, and the cherished homes of past generations.

A small tribute to their grandparents’ homes—and to the enduring craft of Viarco, where pencils have been made in Portugal since 1907.
