Le Laboureur x Gardenheir

Like all French workwear, the best days are after a few washes. The fabric has softened, color has faded, and the fit has relaxed into your body. Inspired by our third year anniversary, and three years of wearing these classic chore jackets, we teamed up with Le Laboureur to create this only at Gardenheir patina by stone washing their classics for the lived in feel that could (before) only be found in vintage. The result: a perfect French chore jacket that looks and feels more like that vintage one your friend found at Marché aux Puces.

About the Jacket:

The Le Laboureur French Cotton Moleskin Work Jacket, often referred to as the “chore coat”, is an iconic workwear garment. A staple at Great Dixter and other notable gardens, the jacket was originally worn by agricultural and industrial workers and is now synonymous with functional style. Simply and practically designed, this work jacket is a great outerwear piece that is wide enough to layer but not too bulky on its own. The french cotton moleskin fabrication is as hard wearing as it is hard working. There are 3 external pockets and one internal breast pocket - useful for your wallet, gloves, phone, notebook or secateurs.

What is Moleskin?

Traditionally used in French workwear, cotton moleskin is a densely woven fabric with a soft, sueded finish that offers exceptional durability and comfort. Unlike its name suggests, it's not made from animal skin—rather, it’s a heavyweight cotton that’s been brushed to achieve a smooth, almost velvety handfeel. Warm, wind-resistant, and built to last, it breaks in beautifully over time, developing a unique patina with wear.

We are pleased to collaborate with Le Laboureur, a small French family-owned brand producing traditional workwear since the 1950’s. Ever since, fashionmongers and gardeners alike have been drawn to their timeless shapes and practical use.
