The chemise artiste (artist shirt) has an officer collar, long sleeves and a closure with three buttons. Pleats at the front and back yokes, as well as at the armholes and cuffs, making it traditional to the styles of these work smocks of the early 1900’s. Tunic length, the style has a boxy, oversized fit and the cotton is a quite crisp (unwashed) oxford weight, but like all traditional workwear, only gets better with work, washes, and time.
The style is ideal for gardeners and other artists and (yes) we recognize this style has a a certain Belle Époque/ romance novel feel, but what’s more romantic than the garden? We say lean in!
