HDG means 'Hot Dipped Galvanized', which involves submerging the steel watering can into a molten zinc bath. The molten zinc coats the watering can inside and out forming a protective seal. The can is then removed from the bath and hung to dry.

Haws attempts to clean off any excess zinc to offer a sweeter finish, however, there is a fine line where too much cleaning compromises the protective seal. So a rough or mottled galvanized finish is to be expected.
